Info zur Skulptur "San Leonardo with horse"

Saint Léonard is one of the most revered saints in the Alpine region. According to sources, Leonhard was born in the province of Gaul, in what is now central France, around the year 500.
His name day is celebrated on November 6th.
He was regarded as a helper in times of need and is venerated as the patron saint of prisoners, as he performed miracles for many prisoners. As soon as Saint Léonard called a prisoner, his shackles and chains were broken and he was immediately freed. Many of these freed prisoners then stayed with him and served the Lord. For this reason, Saint Léonard is often depicted with iron chains as an attribute.
Saint Léonard is also the patron saint of horses and horned cattle, he is regarded as the helper of farmers and peasant life, in this case the iron chain of the prisoner becomes a cattle chain.
Also our wooden statue of Saint Léonard is represented with horse and chain.
