Info zur Skulptur "St. Elisabeth with roses"

Saint Elizabeth of Thuringia was a noble lady, born in 1207 in Hungary, who was married - almost still being a child to a noble man of Thuringia and became mother of four children. She did not live in clover, as the other noble fellowmen, but helped instead the poor and the ill. Once, as she left the castle with bread, she was questioned by her husband, Elizabeth opened her cloak and showed him a big basket full of roses. Ever since, roses are her attribute . She is the Patron Saint of bakers, the Caritas, of widows and innocently persecuted people. And especially of beggars. Elizabeth died at the age of 24. Her day of honour is the 19th of November.
