According to early Christian tradition, the evangelist Mark (also known as John Mark) is the author of the oldest Gospel, which appears in the second place in the New Testament. It is also the shortest of the four Gospels. Mark was an associate of Paul and a companion of Peter. The Gospel according to Mark is the oldest written account of the preaching and suffering of Jesus. The Gospel begins with the ministry of John the Baptist and the baptism of Jesus. This is followed by two further blocks in the Gospel: the first part tells of Jesus as a teacher, the second part tells of the capture, condemnation, crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus.
In his work, the evangelist Mark not only wanted to portray Jesus as a simple man, but also to affirm that he is the Son of God and has performed many miracles.
The evangelist's symbol is the lion of St. Mark, which is also depicted on our hand-painted wooden figure.
